Oh Poo!

I’ve been getting away from blogging again! It’s not that I don’t have time…it’s just that…I don’t. :(

Motherhood is going great! It just feels so natural being a mother…like I’ve been one my entire life. I’ve mastered breastfeeding with one hand; changing diapers in under 2 minutes; and the crying…that’s a work in progress.

Finally! I’m comfortable with letting him sleep without me checking his breathing every 10 minutes. I had no idea that I could get so much more accomplished by just leaving him alone while he sleeps. Not to mention that it’s a great time for me to catch up on some ZZZs.

I’ve been going out on my own for the last couple of days, leaving the hubby to have some bonding time with Baby J. The results? A calmer, less stressed me!! How exciting! We’ve also been having some family bonding time which is mostly spent in restaurants. We’ve done Applebee’s and Red Lobster, and Cheddar’s with my parents for Valentine’s Day..all with a sleeping newborn in tow.

So pretty much, everything is going great! Oh yeah…he passed his extensive hearing screening at MUSC. We go back in August for another one.

2 Week Checkup

Baby J’s two week checkup went great! He’s now weighing 8 pounds!! (His birth weight: 6lbs 11oz) His next checkup is at 2 months.

In other news, not much has been going on with me. My days (and nights!) are spent mostly with Baby J. The hubby did give me a break last night and today so I could get some much needed rest. He even took me out today! I was ready to come back home, though. I’m so used to not getting out at all…I can’t even enjoy being out.

I’ve been looking at cameras because I need a new one. My point-and-shoot is almost four years old and takes some pretty crappy pictures. I’ve wanted a dSLR for a while now, and I think I’m going to go for the Nikon D3000, which is a beginner camera. Who knows…maybe I can even get around to taking a class this year.

I’ve also decided to try skinID. I’ve heard some pretty good things about it, and now that ProActiv has quit working for me…why not? I can’t wait to see how this “personalized regimen” works for me.

I believe that’s it for today! Back to the land of dirty diapers and bottles.

2 Weeks Old Tomorrow!!

Monday, 8 February, 2010 | Filed: Baby Talk, Joys of Marriage | Labels: > >

Baby J will be two weeks old tomorrow! He gets to spend his day being testing at MUSC. He has to have an extensive hearing test done.

Today I’m thinking about taking him and the hubby to Savannah so we can go to the mall and have some “family time”. I’m trying to get him out more during the day so that he can learn the difference between day and night. My poor baby is confused. :(

Happy Baby

He’s doing great though. Eating well from the bottle and breastfeeding well. Sleeping great (obviously)! He doesn’t cry much when he’s with me, but when his father is around…that’s a different story.

He’s also not big on peeing and pooping in his diapers. I got pooped on twice yesterday. But enough about him. Here’s some more pictures to end this post!

It’s been a very long time since I’ve updated, but not much has been going on.

Baby J came a little over a week early on January 26, 2010!

Born Jan 26, 2010 @ 6pm

At 1pm on January 26th I started having mild contractions and bleeding. I had to wait for my husband to come home from work (takes him about 45 minutes) before I could go to the hospital. The contractions weren’t getting any worse, but they were getting closer together.

It was almost 2:45pm when we got to the hospital. They hooked me up to the monitors and checked my cervix. I was still 3cm and 100% effaced. They decided to monitor me for a couple of hours to see if I progressed any.

The nurse kept coming back and forth. She kept trying to get me to eat because she said the baby wasn’t moving like how they wanted him to. I ate one cracker and ended up throwing it up. The contractions were starting to get worse, but according to the monitor, they weren’t getting any closer together.

At 5:30pm, they told me that they were thinking about sending me home. I was still having contractions, but the bleeding had disappeared. The nurse never bothered to check my cervix again, but offered to do an ultrasound. She brought me some ice chips while I waited for the u/s techs to come get me. I put one in my mouth and felt like I had to vomit.

At 5:45pm, my water broke and it had meconium in it. The nurse checked my cervix again, and I was 10cm dilated. Baby J’s head was right there, so they had to rush me to the delivery room. I had no time to get any meds, and my doctor was still on her way. They had to hold my legs shut.

I was hooked up to an IV by the time she arrived. She was trying to make small talk, but all I wanted to do was push. I told her that I couldn’t wait. Five pushes later, Baby J was born weighing 6 lbs. 11 oz.

Early the next morning, he had to be transported to MUSC’s NNICU for an exchange transfusion due to ABO incompatibility. We brought him home on Saturday.
